What is the Teej Festival?

Teej is a festival celebrated by women of India and it is dedicated to the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is mostly celebrated in north India. The festival of Teej is celebrated in three forms: Kajari Teej, Hariyali Teej, and Hartalika Teej.

When is the Teej Festival celebrated?

“Teej” word refers to the third day after the new and full moon, every month.

During the rainstorm season, these celebrations are started on the third day of the waxing moon in the Hindu month of Shravan, and on the third day of the waxing moons in the Hindu month of Bhadrapad.

This implies there are really three Teej celebrations – known as Kajari/Kajli Teej, Hariyali (Green) Teej, and Hartalika Teej.

How Teej is celebrated?

Hariyali Teej

Hartalika Teej

Hartalika Teej holiday in 2019 falls on 1 September 2019, Sunday.

Hartalika Teej is celebrated for three days of Bhadrapada as per the Hindu schedule. Married ladies and unmarried young girls go to Teej Mata, who is Goddess Parvati.

Young girls keep fast to get a decent spouse like lord Shiva. Ladies keep a waterless fast on these three days and love the Goddess. It is assumed that God Shiva satisfies the wants of the ladies who fast on the celebration day.

The celebration is celebrated with extraordinary energy in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar.
